Coy Haste is the exciting new solo venture from Brad Weber - the Toronto-based musician who can otherwise be found behind the kit for Caribou, or conjuring up melody-heavy electronica with his collaborative project Pick A Piper.
For the first time Brad has shed wider personnel in favour of indulging his own creation, taking the form of EP1 - his debut release, recorded in his home town in the fall of 2015.
The Coy Haste sound has all the hallmarks of Brad's esteemed career so far, forged at the much-cherished intellectual fringe of the wider dance music movement, but with an eager embrace for melody and polyrhythmic goodness.
However, there are wonderful deviations and departures that dismisses any notion of a one-trick musical pony. Whether that's the beautiful interplay of melancholic violin and celestial beats during Austral Fog, or the Kraut-rock and hypnotic synth-work of Route 40.
Overall the album has a heavy sense of discovery and adventure, fuelled by Brad's touring and travelling of the last few years. The art of travel has never sounded so fruitful.
